The Instituto Reciclantes removes women, children and men from precarious work related to urban waste. We carry out basic human rights protection, distribute basic resources and carry out professional training to improve the quality of life and work of people in this condition in Rio de Janeiro. Irajá Box Office
In a few words? Slum dwellers, Northeast removers, Baixa
schooling, solid waste management. 43 years ago, long before any solid waste policy, men and women identified that it would be possible to work on the collection and repair of wooden boxes used by fairs, markets and farmers. Most report that they started the business there with their own effort and with little or no capital, that is, after carrying out their first business they were able to buy food, a place to live and some improvements to their spaces. They nominated themselves as "Caixoteiros". The world has changed, society has changed and consequently the waste arising from this relationship has become molded. Wood, plastic, cardboard, protective plastic, a new range of materials was gradually changing the work scenario bringing new challenges and opportunities. We are focused on making the Irajá Box become one of the largest recycling centers in the country. You can leave this place: art, energy, inputs and many other possibilities that we have yet to discover.
